Thread seal tape can be used in many ways, the most common of which is to seal pipe threads.

Taps and dies in those diameters are only made for pipe threads, which have completely different profiles.

(In Europe, taper female pipe threads are not commonly used.)

These standard pipe threads are formally referred to by the following sequence of blocks:

Type "B", has a female camlock end and a male pipe thread of the same size.

Type "F", has a male grooved adaptor and a male pipe thread of the same size.

One head is fixed on the pipe by spinning it onto standard pipe threads.

Male Hose Thread, a type of pipe thread usually found on garden hoses.

One defining feature of impact heads is they almost always have male pipe threads, as opposed to the female threads found on virtually all other sprinkler types.
