As the first group of Cherokee began their exodus to Rattlesnake Springs, Cherokee Nation (4 miles south of Charleston, Tennessee), the Cherokee from counties south and east of the area also were housed here.

By July 25, 1838, over 4,800 Cherokee prisoners were encamped near Fort Cass, along nearby Mouse Creek, Chatata Creek, Chestuee Creek, Rattlesnake Springs, and Bedwell Springs.

In 1878, a white couple was murdered near Rattlesnake Springs by renegade Bannock and Paiute Indians.

A CCC camp was established at Rattlesnake Springs.

August 1-7: The last council meeting of the Cherokee Nation east of the Mississippi River was held at Aquohee Camp in present day Bradley County, Tennessee, at the site now known as Rattlesnake Springs.

There was formerly a state historic park north of Weatherby called Rattlesnake Springs that commemorated a stop along the Oregon Trail.

The National Audubon Society has designated Rattlesnake Springs an Important Bird Area (IBA).

One of the oldest recorded locations in Woodside was called Rattlesnake Spring on the property of a Captain Bryan Newton.

August 1880, Buffalo Soldiers ambushed Victorio at Rattlesnake Springs.

Colonel Grierson, commander of the 10th Cavalry, traversed the hot Chihuahuan Desert and then the narrow valleys of the Chinati Mountains, reaching Rattlesnake Springs on the morning of August 6, 1880.
