The DoD standard is that after three incorrect PIN attempts, the chip on the CAC will lock.
So just like at an ATM or POS terminal, entering an incorrect PIN three times in a row into a CAP reader will block the card.
As a further security measure, if a user enters an incorrect PIN three times, the card may be locked out of EFTPOS and require reactivation over the phone or at a branch.
